Red Bull Racing has revealed that Sergio Perez came "very close" to a DNF in the Miami Grand Prix, in which the Mexican lost a lot of time due to a problem with an engine sensor.
In the first part of the race, Perez was driving close behind Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, for whom it seemed a matter of time before he would lose his third place to the Mexican. However, Perez reported a sudden lack of power, which he continued to struggle with for the rest of the race.

The problem could be partially addressed by resetting a number of things. This prevented certain systems from automatically shutting down due to the sensor error.
Christian Horner said according to Autosport.com even that Perez was "very close" to a retirement. By moving the sensors around, that could be prevented, but it did result in a significant loss of power.
