Racing Point have made a solid start to the season, sitting fifth in the Constructors’ Championship after four rounds, only one point behind McLaren.
In one of the tightest midfield battles in recent years, Racing Point’s CEO Otmar Szafnauer believes that the development race will be crucial in the scramble for points.
Sergio Perez’s sixth placed finish in Azerbaijan gained the team a solid haul of points to improve their position, and Szafnauer said: “I think in the last few races, from seventh to 18th in qualifying was like three-tenths of a second, so it’s really hard to know where in that you’ll fall.
"It is what it is, and it means we’ve got to fight more in the midfield. We still have to improve the car, which hopefully we’ll do in Barcelona, and then see how we go for the rest of the year.
"It’s a huge development race this year."
