Perez backs up words with Instagram post: This is how the sidepod looked

Sergio Perez has a contract extension in his pocket at Red Bull Racing, but he does not owe it to his recent performances. The Mexican's performance has been poor for months, and it was also poor in Austria. That was partly due to significant damage to his RB20, he admitted afterwards. He backed up those words with a post on Instagram.

In a story, the 34-year-old driver shows what was left of a piece of sidepod bodywork. The picture shows a large hole, sustained at the start. Presumably, a touch with Oscar Piastri was to blame, although Perez could not 100 per cent confirm that after the race.
