Opinion | Verstappen was right: there could have been a race on Sunday

The biggest discussion point of last weekend was the handling of Sunday's race at Spa. The weather forced the FIA to decide after five hours to put the race behind the safety car on paper by taking the result for what it was at that moment and handing out half points.

Where the discussion was about the half points and the actions of the FIA, there was one driver who thought the weather during the period behind the safety car was good enough to just go racing and thought it was nonsense not to start the race: Max Verstappen.

Yes, he was the one with the least spray in front of him and was also in first place. But not only Verstappen but also many analysts and other famous names from the Formula 1 world claim that there could have been a race last Sunday and that there were much tougher conditions where there was a race.

Are races in the rain a thing of the past? Do we intervene too quickly when the weather is bad? Should the drivers, as Verstappen wanted last Sunday, be given the opportunity to race in such conditions?
