On this day in 2010, Sebastian Vettel took his first F1 world championship in dramatic circumstances after a close battle with Fernando Alonso and Ferrari. The German took the first of four straight world titles and became the youngest ever world champion in the process.
Despite leading the championship going into the final round, Alonso was unable to pick up enough points to keep his advantage over the Red Bull pair of Vettel and Mark Webber after getting stuck behind Vitaly Petrov in the Renault for the second half of a frustrating race for the Spaniard.
Vettel, who was third in the championship heading into the race, won from Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in second and third respectively. Alonso came home in seventh and Webber eighth meaning that Vettel overcame the odds and the 15 point deficit he had to the Ferrari driver to win the 2010 championship.
