Josef Newgarden won the race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison. The driver managed to keep David Malukas and Scot McLaughlin behind him. For Rinus van Kalmthout it was a dramatic weekend with a retirement.
The Dutchman saw his dashboard fail after ten of the 260 laps, making it impossible for him to communicate with his team and receive information about the race. After two pit stops and 52 laps completed, he decided to bring his car in and abandon the race.

Rain makes for long waits

The drivers suffered from heavy rain on the track, which caused them to wait for two and a half hours. In the end, Newgarden won the race and took the victory. The difference with Will Power has been reduced to just three points.
Scott Dixon and Marcus Ericsson also remain close to first place. The drivers are facing a difference of fourteen and seventeen points respectively. The next race awaits them at the beginning of September. Then the teams travel to Portland. One week later the final race is scheduled in Monterey.
