Adrian Newey has offered candid advice to engineers aiming to make their mark in the world of Formula 1. “Curiosity is probably the biggest single thing. Be curious.”
- Adrian NeweySpeaking in the Aston Martin video in collaboration with partner Maaden, the British motorsports chief revealed the need for aspiring engineers to maintain a high level of curiosity.
He said, “Curiosity is probably the biggest single thing. Be curious, look around, talk to your colleagues, your peers. Try not to pester them, of course, but don't be afraid to ask questions.”
Newey further highlighted the inevitable challenges in an
F1 career, stressing the importance of resilience among young engineers.
“There will be setbacks, you've just got to kind of dig deep, try to get through it and be aware that life is not flat, both personally and professionally. You have your good periods and your bad periods.”

The 66-year-old concluded by stating the need for young engineers to savour the good periods while not letting the unpleasant times weigh them down.
“Enjoy the good periods, but also, if you're in that bad period, try not to get depressed about it because these things always change, they always come around. Learn to grow broad shoulders, have confidence in yourself," he concluded.
Newey, who joined the Aston Martin F1 outfit in early March, is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest designers, with his cars racking up 13 Constructors’ titles and 12 Drivers’ Championships over his four-decade career, which includes stints at several teams, including
Red Bull Racing, Williams, and
McLaren.

Newey also weighed in on what to expect from the regulation changes set to herald Formula 1 in 2026.
The Aston Martin chief conceded he has no idea what the upcoming changes will throw at teams.Reiterating his focus on maximising the upcoming regulation changes, Newey also touched on how the Aston Martin team is in a period of transformation, before concluding that his satisfaction will come from the team working together towards making progress.
The upcoming 2026 calendar will witness sweeping changes in Formula 1, both on the chassis and aerodynamic side.
