The organisers of the Mexican Grand Prix have expressed their support for Sergio Perez. There has been a stir in the country over the generalising statements made by Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko, who has since apologised. The organisers believe measures should be taken to prevent this from happening again.

GP Mexico supports Perez

"In the Mexican GP, we express our support for the Mexican driver Sergio 'Checo' Perez. Inappropriate comments have no place anywhere, including in sport," the organisation said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
"It is important that measures are taken to prevent this and that apologies are made when necessary. We invite everyone to build a more respectful and united community in Formula 1, promoting healthy competition both on and off the track."
Apologies have since been made. Marko made a statement on the ServusTV website, openly apologising for his comments. The Red Bull adviser recognised that his statements were offensive and admitted it was wrong to link Perez's cultural heritage to his performance.
