The McLaren Group have announced they are to partner up with Vincenzo Nibali and Team Bahrain-Merida to enter the pro-cycling tour in 2019. This announcement comes the day after McLaren launched a new smartphone with OnePlus.
McLaren will enter a 50% joint venture with Team Bahrain Merida, the UCI WorldTour squad of 2014 Tour De France winner Vincenzo Nibali.
"Racing, technology and human performance are at the heart of everything we do at McLaren," John Allert, McLaren's chief marketing officer said.
"Cycling is something we have been involved with in the past and have been looking at entering for some time. It is a completely natural fit for our skills and our ambitions and a perfect partnership with Team Bahrain Merida who have the right vision and approach for the future."
McLaren has had a little dabble into the world of cycling before. McLaren Applied Technologies have worked with Team Sky and British cycling prior to the 2012 London Olympics. This morning, Sky announced they would no longer back their team after a 10-year partnership.
