Zak Brown, McLaren’s racing CEO admits he is “encouraged” after hearing the latest update on F1’s 2021 regulations. A meeting took place in Monaco last weekend to update team representatives.
Brown confirmed the biggest point announced at the meeting was that the 2021 engine regulations will be confirmed by the end of June.
“I was encouraged that Jean Todt gave us a commitment that the engine regulations will be in place by the end of June,” said Brown.
“They went through what they rolled out, told us what they heard, and gave us some views, so that was encouraging.”
One of the most eye-catching points to come out of the Bahrain meeting was the $150 million budget cap. And Brown confirmed he’s already been thinking about the effects of this and insists McLaren will be in a strong position to react to anything.

“I do think that the budget caps which are being suggested by Formula 1 will cause a reduction in headcount,” continued Brown.
“Some teams more than others. But we have the benefit of maybe looking to redeploy those people as opposed to limiting positions.”
