Verstappen happy and sympathises with Perez: 'But the crowd stayed!'

All of Mexico was hoping for a win by Sergio Perez, it turned out to be his teammate Max Verstappen. Amid loud applause from the Mexican fans, the Dutchman celebrated his 16th win of the season - setting his own record.

Talking to Jenson Button, Verstappen, immediately after the finish flag, told: "It's been incredible. Of course Checo retired on Lap 1 but the crowd stayed and they have been amazing. Incredible!"

Verstappen thus took his 16th win of the season in Mexico, something thas been never achieved in Formula 1 before. "We are experiencing an incredible season. Today, we started P3 but the pace of the car was very, very good. We tried to do a different strategy to everyone else but unfortunately with the red flag we couldn't show it, but nevertheless with the hard tyres we were very strong." Verstappen concluded.
