The new FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, seems to have begun the restructuring of motorsport. As a result, Felipe Massa has been appointed as the new president of the Driver's Commission.
The Driver's Commission was created to give the drivers a voice. Through this commission the drivers can indicate to the FIA which problems they are facing, so that these can be solved together. Experienced and respected drivers are appointed as president and this year that it will be Massa. The Brazilian had previously been appointed president of the International Karting Commission, but he will now mostly focus on his new role.
It's all part of Ben Sulaymen's plan. He wanted to reform the organisation in connection with the new era they are now entering. "A new era has begun for the FIA, through the creation of a governance framework founded on openness and global diversity," said the FIA president in the official message from the FIA.

Improvement and renewal

The former Formula 1 driver is very happy with this new role, because he also sees that things need to be different and better, such as driving licenses, points and safety. Still, he can't completely let go of his work in karting, so he will still be doing some things there as well. Meanwhile, he will also be working a lot with George Russell who became the director of the Grand Prix Drivers Association after the departure of Romain Grosjean.

Several presidents have already been appointed. Sam Michael, Williams and McLaren sports director, is the new chairman of the safety commission and Deborah Mayer, the co-founder of Iron Lynx and the founder of the special Iron Dames project (the team that supports women in motorsport), succeeds Michele Mouton as chairman of the Women in Motorsport Commission.
