Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing reached a deal last week to continue with each other until 2028. The Dutchman will reportedly earn a similar salary to Lewis Hamilton, but Helmut Marko thinks that is only understandable. He tells that to OE24.
While Hamilton has been supreme in Formula 1 in recent years, Verstappen managed to compete with his rival last season. Prior to the last race in Abu Dhabi, both men were equal in terms of points, so it could have gone either way. Verstappen eventually drew the longer straw and secured the win.
This was reason enough for the Austrian racing team to connect Verstappen to the team as soon as possible. However, there were plenty of bidders on the block, so Red Bull knew it had to act quickly and dare to invest.

Marko grants Verstappen new top salary

Although Verstappen is a top earner within Formula 1 with his new commitment, Marko is not worried about it. "I don't know what Hamilton earns, but I think it's clear that a world champion is given a different weighting," he revealed. "There are only two superstars at the moment and Max is the man of the future."
