Lewis Hamilton has suggested that Fernando Alonso could return to F1 to replace Red Bull's struggling Pierre Gasly for next season, should the team decide to drop the Frenchman.
Alonso has said many times that he would only return to the sport if he could join a team with a winning car, and with Max Verstappen winning two of the last four races, and coming close last time out in Hungary, Red Bull could certainly provide that.
According to the Daily Mail, Hamilton said: “There is still at least a seat available that’s good enough for winning," referencing the possible availability at Red Bull.
“Fernando’s good enough for winning. The sport needs the best drivers in the best seats. Fernando’s always welcome here to battle with us. I’m down to fight whoever.”
Alonso v Verstappen is a mouth watering prospect, but whether Red Bull would put pressure on their star man like that is a whole new story. But we can dream! Who would win between Alonso and Verstappen if they were to end up at Red Bull together? Vote below!
