This weekend the Monaco Grand Prix is on the programme. Charles Leclerc was born in the city-state, making it his home race this weekend. The Ferrari driver knows you have to trust your instincts to be fast in Monaco.
Leclerc has yet to achieve good results in his home race. In 2018, the Monegasque crashed after a brake problem and in 2019, Leclerc also failed to finish his home race. In 2021, the Ferrari driver was in very good shape after the first fast laps in Q3, but on his last lap of qualifying, Leclerc crashed, preventing the five-time race winner from even starting on Sunday. In 2022, Leclerc did start from pole, but a blundering Ferrari meant the Monegasque still finished outside the podium.

Monaco gives Leclerc adrenaline

Despite Leclerc having yet to have much luck in his home race, the driver is looking forward to next weekend. The Monegasque feels that 'adrenaline' is the word that best sums up the Monaco circuit. "Adrenalin: that’s the essence of what you get from this track," the driver said in a press release from Ferrari.

That Leclerc is fast in Monaco has been proven in recent years. The Monegasque took pole position the past two years, but could not yet convert it into a victory in Sunday's race. According to the Ferrari driver, confidence is the key to success in Monte Carlo.
"It’s narrow and bumpy and in order to be quick you have to trust in your feelings. Driving a Formula 1 car here you basically have no time to pause for breath and, in qualifying, when you’re pushing flat-out it’s, as I said, a real adrenalin boost. I don’t think you get the same feeling at any other track and I know that goes for everyone who races here."
