'It's a little bit disappointing from where we were starting'
- Liam LawsonSpeaking about his fifth-place finish, his best result in
F1 so far, Lawson said:
"It's a little bit disappointing from where we were starting. Realistically, we didn't have the speed to fight with the guys in front today. But obviously, we're hopeful. We tried everything today, but it just wasn't quite enough. Still, to finish P5 is big for us, especially in the championship right now. Massive thanks to the team. We've had a good couple of weekends, and I'm happy to come home with some points."
The New Zealander said he was pleased with the team’s result but had hoped for an even better personal outcome: "You always want more though, especially when you start further up. I would have loved to finish even higher today, but it's still a great result. Honestly, I think it's the best we could do today."
Hadjar admitted that he struggled to find a good feel with the car over the weekend, but was overall satisfied with scoring points.
"I had a really good start, went by Lando into Turn 2. I made a mistake on the safety car restart, lost two places, and from there the momentum just wasn’t great. The pace on the mediums was not ideal, but moving onto the hards, the pace was amazing and we were catching the group ahead quite quickly. Still, it wasn’t enough to make a move.
I had a really bad feeling with the car this weekend. I was uncomfortable, and yet somehow we made it to Q3 and scored double points. It gives me a lot of positivity that when I feel good in the car, we’re going to perform much better."
A solid weekend for Racing Bulls
Liam Lawson had already achieved a historic result for himself in qualifying, securing third place on the grid.
In the race, he wasn’t able to hold onto the podium as Carlos Sainz did, but he still brought home a solid fifth place, fending off attacks from Yuki Tsunoda and Lando Norris, who applied significant pressure in the final stint.
It was also a good weekend for Isack Hadjar, who, despite not matching his teammate’s pace, once again finished the race in the points.
