Sébastien Buemi crashed at high speed during July's Pirelli tyre test at Silverstone. The cause of the crash is under investigation though it sounds like the rear left tyre failed. Mario Isola says investigating the cause of the crash is "still running" and will take some time.
Buemi and Red Bull Racing were testing the 2020 Formula 1 tyre specification until the crash occurred. It's believed the former Formula 1 driver left the track at 167mph. In Hockenheim, Pirelli's head of motorsport was on hand to give more detail.
"The investigation of the tire is still running. We want to work with Red Bull Racing to find out what went wrong. The same type of tire had given cause for concern in Austria, and he was also tried on the first Silverstone test day of both racing teams, that of Red Bull Racing and Williams," Isola is quoted by SpeedWeek.
"It is unclear what exactly happened. We see that tire and rear suspension collapsed at the same time. We need to find out how that happened as soon as possible. The next week should have finished like the analysis. Currently, we do not exclude anything."
