For two seasons now
Nico Hulkenberg has been looking for a permanent seat in a competitive racing class. The German driver seems to have forgotten about a permanent seat in
Formula 1, so he has been looking for a seat elsewhere for a while now. Recently he tested an IndyCar for
McLaren.
Still, a switch to
McLaren in America will not happen, Hulkenberg tells us via
his Twitter account.
"A little update," he writes. "
It was exciting to test an Indycar two weeks ago and I am grateful to McLaren for this opportunity. However, for personal reasons, I decided not to go ahead with it. Keep you posted on my future plans." It's not entirely clear from what he said if Hulkenberg means that he's not interested in joining McLaren or if he's not interested in an IndyCar adventure at all. It is of course guessing, but not everyone has the ambition to move to America to race on the (dangerous) ovals. Last season
Romain Grosjean decided to switch to IndyCar, but at first, he didn't want to race ovals. The Frenchman has already changed his decision.
The chance that Hulkenberg will get a new chance in
Formula 1 seems impossible. At the moment the German is a reserve driver at Aston Martin and also for next season this seems to be the highest possible achievement in F1.
