Damon Hill has joked about Lando Norris's title chances after he and teammate Oscar Piastri collided at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The two McLarens came together for the first time as teammates, with Norris driving into the back of Piastri down the start/finish straight to prematurely end his race and finish with zero points.
After diving down the inside of the hairpin of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Piastri then had the DRS run down the back straight to make a move into the 'Wall of Champions' chicane to overtake the Brit.
Norris then had DRS himself to make a move down the start/finish straight, trying to look for the inside line into turn 1. However, there was no space to do so, and the 25-year-old ended up clipping the back of Piastri's car, losing control and hitting the wall to end his race.

Hill jokes about Norris's title chances

So far, it is not the season Norris had hoped for after challenging for the world title in 2024. Mayn believed that the Brit would be the favourite to take the title, highlighted by his impressive win at the opening race of the season at the Australian Grand Prix.
However, since then, the Brit has only won one race, struggling with his performances in qualifying that seem to put Norris on the back foot, while Piastri has gone onto win five races this campaign.
Accidents like those in Montréal will not help in the race for the world title, and Hill has had his say on that, joking on Instagram: “A world championship is a bit like a bar of soap. Try not to hold onto it too tightly,” the 1996 world champion states, referring to the fact that the title is slipping through Norris's hands due to his crash.
Because Norris collided with Piastri, his chances of winning the championship have suffered another blow. The Brit is now 22 points behind his teammate.
The gaps between Max Verstappen and George Russell have also narrowed after they finished first and second in the tenth Grand Prix of the season. The Dutchman is only 19 points behind the McLaren driver, while the gap between Norris and Russell is 40 points.
