Arvid Lindblad is seen by Helmut Marko as a huge talent. Johnny Herbert is also impressed with the Brit. The former Formula 1 driver and steward is even daring enough to say that the Red Bull talent can be better than Max Verstappen. In conversation with a betting website, Herbert discussed the situation around the second driver at
Red Bull Racing:
“You're always in danger of losing your seat if you're struggling like Yuki Tsunoda, and how Liam Lawson, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon all struggled being teammates with Max Verstappen.”Could Lindblad become better than Verstappen?
Herbert sees Lindblad as a driver who is incredibly fast: “I know Helmut Marko has a lot of respect for Lindblad, I met him when he was 14 when he was karting. He's got a very good outlook and mindset on what he wants to do and about getting into F1.”
Herbert also stated: “He's [Lindblad] is a perfect candidate to replace Tsunoda if he continues to struggle. Is there someone out there who could be better than Verstappen? Yes. Could it be Lindblad? Sure, but the real comes once you are in a seat with Max when he is on the other side of the garage.”
Arvid Lindblad in the paddock
For now, Lindblad is racing in Formula 2 for Campos Racing. The seventeen-year-old driver, who made his debut in the feeder series to Formula 1 this season, is currently third in the championship. Only Alex Dunne and Richard Verschoor are currently ahead of the Red Bull Racing talent.
During the racing weekend in Saudi Arabia, Lindblad did something special. He won the sprint race, which meant he was the youngest winner ever in Formula 2. Verschoor crossed the finish line first,
but due to a five-second penalty, he fell back and the Red Bull talent finished first.
