Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastest time through the first practice session of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. The 40-year-old, who was handed a five-place grid penalty for the Grand Prix, led the Ferrari team front row lockout in front of the on-watching tifosi.
Hamilton was over a tenth quicker than teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished the session i second place. William Racing driver Carlos Sainz completed the top three with a third place, albeit over half a second behind Hamilton.
Max Verstappen led the best of the rest, as his time of 1:20.692 was only good for fourth place. Home favourite, Kimi Antonelli, followed the Red Bull driver in fourth place with a time of 1:20.940.
However, it was the McLarens who raised the biggest eyebrows, with Lando Norris recording a sixth-place finish, almost a second behind Hamilton and Alex Dunne, who replaced Oscar Piastri, recording a 16th-place finish.
