Lewis Hamilton won both practice sessions on Friday in his Mercedes, and unsurprisingly, the four-time champion was happy with the way his car behaved, even though he thought it got worse in the afternoon.
Mercedes looked like a beatable team in Canada three weeks ago, but that looks like an eternity ago now. In France last week, the Silver Arrows were dominant from FP1 up until the checkered flag on Sunday. If it weren't for Sebastian Vettel's nudge at the start of the Grand Prix, they probably would've gotten the one-two. Another very unlucky race for the Fin, who has been way better than people give him credit for.
Back to Hamilton. He was the quickest man again in both sessions, leading Bottas in second place in both sessions. He was happy with his car, although he did think it was slightly worse in FP2.
"It was a good day, it went off quite trouble-free and without any real problems," he told SpeedWeek.
"It's great to have the innovations on the car, the guys back home at the Brackley plant have been working hard to deliver that quality to us.
"In certain areas the car feels better and there is already an improvement compared to the last race.
"During the afternoon the feeling got a bit worse, we'll take a closer look at it when we sit down together."
Great professionalism from Hamilton. Even when he gets first, he remains critical. That constant willingness to improve is one of the main reasons Hamilton is where he is.
