Oscar Piastri topped the one and only practice session in Qatar as his
McLaren teammate
Lando Norris set the second-quickest time.
It was a difficult session for some drivers, including Norris, who ran off the track a couple of times in the opening stages.
Fernando Alonso went third quickest for Aston Martin after a relatively quiet session and a quick lap time at the end.
The Spaniard was quickly followed by his compatriot Carlos Sainz, with Isack Hadjar in fifth place for Racing Bulls.
Reigning world champion
Max Verstappen managed sixth place for Red Bull despite complaining about clipping and gear shifts.
Alex Albon and Charles Leclerc were seventh and eighth after the Ferrari driver ran off the track earlier in FP1.
Ninth place was taken by Lance Stroll, while Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top 10. Lewis Hamilton couldn't break into the top 10 and took P12 after one hour of running, behind Nico Hulkenberg.
The qualifying simulations began towards the end of the session in Qatar, and Isack Hadjar briefly went to the top of the times.
Norris had a slow start to the session and spent time in the garage, but eventually got laps under his belt.
The times tumbled during the opening stages of the session as George Russell usurped the Red Bull driver to go quickest with 15 minutes on the clock.
Verstappen set the pace early on in the session as the four-time world champion hit the ground running in Qatar.
