Former F1 driver has clear advice for Russell: 'If there's a good opportunity, leave!'

After months of rumours about a switch for Mercedes, Max Verstappen confirmed on the media day of the Hungarian Grand Prix that he will stay with Red Bull Racing for the 2026 season.

That Russell and Antonelli will sign a new deal seems nothing more than a formality now, this site could previously wrote.

Former driver Juan Pablo Montoya expects both drivers to get a deal for a single season.

When asked about whether Verstappen's decision for 2026 will close all the speculation about the Briton, he believes if possible, Russell should opt for a switch.

"I think the problem is George is only going to get a one-year deal. And I think Antonelli is going to get a one-year deal," he began to a betting site.

“If I was George and I had a good opportunity somewhere else, I would go," he continued.

Entering the summer break, Russell is in fourth place in the drivers' standings with 172 points and a victory at the Canadian GP, 15 points behind Max Verstappen.
