FIA President agrees with Horner regarding 2021 engine regulations

FIA President Jean Todt acknowledges Horner's comment regardding 2021 engine regulation clarity and admits that Ferrari are free to leave but hopes they never turn their back on F1.

In an interview with the official Formula 1 website Todt said: “They (Ferrari) may leave. Honestly, that is their choice. They are free. I definitely hope they will not leave, but it can always happen.

“You’ve seen big competitors leaving, coming back. But again, it is their choice.

In the interview, Jean also said he’s “not in favour” of the veto rule.

With engine regulations expected to be altered in 2021 and team principles such as Christian Horner wanting the process to be sped up giving teams to chance prepare, Jean Todt gave an insight of how the process works.

“Unfortunately there is a vey selective memory.

“A few months ago we all sat together and we all agreed unanimously on certain adaptions of the engine for the future. So I’m intending that they will respect what they agreed.”

Todt ackonodlged Horner’s call to speed the decision making up and also confirmed that new entrants are looking at coming into the sport.

“I’ve been talking with some potential new entrants. They are interested to come in but they want to know what the rules of the game are.

“I think it’s a fair request and we need to give that as soon as possible. I am optimistic that we will be able to find a solution.”
