FIA intervenes after dangerous situation Baku: 'Take immediate steps'

The FIA will immediately review the protocols and procedures that allowed spectators to be present in the pit lane while Esteban Ocon made his pit stop. The decision comes after a life-threatening situation arose at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Earlier, it also happened to Alexander Albon that people were in the pit lane when he made his pit stop on the last lap of a race. Apparently, no tough measures have been taken since then to prevent a repeat, because when Ocon made his pit stop in the final phase of the race in Baku, people were again walking through the pit lane.

The FIA speaks of a "very dangerous situation" and says it is lucky that there were no serious consequences. The governing body went through the relevant procedures and protocols with the stewards, who concluded that 'immediate steps must be taken' to ensure the situation does not recur.
