Ferrari urged to 'shut their mouth' in heated 2026 engine regulation debate
The spotlight has intensified in recent weeks on a contentious grey area that Mercedes is believed to have uncovered within the 2026 regulations, taking advantage of the fact that compression-ratio checks are conducted in cold, static conditions. That interpretation would effectively allow the ratio to be brought down from 18:1 to 16:1.
In theory, such a change could unlock a meaningful increase in horsepower, translating into a clear performance advantage — particularly at power-sensitive circuits.

Appearing on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, the former German driver insisted that Ferrari, of all teams, would have little standing to raise objections. He referenced the 2019 controversy surrounding the SF90 engine, which eventually resulted in a confidential agreement with the FIA the following year, an outcome that ultimately blunted the competitiveness of the SF1000.
Horner spells out why he never sought a 'chummy' bond with Wolff
After stepping away from his role last July and handing the keys to Laurent Mekies, the former Red Bull CEO and team principal has all but vanished from public view. Still, his shadow continues to stretch across the paddock, with his name repeatedly resurfacing as talk of a potential return to the grid refuses to die down.
That enduring presence is no coincidence. Figures of his magnitude rarely slip into obscurity — especially someone who transformed Red Bull into a Formula 1 powerhouse and presided over a remarkable run of success spanning two decades.
A haul that stands on equal footing with that of his fiercest sporting rival, Toto Wolff, as Red Bull and Mercedes carved up the sport’s dominance over the past fifteen years. Making his first public appearance since his departure at the European Motor Show in Dublin, the Briton also took the chance to revisit the rivalry — and the complex relationship — that defined an era of Formula 1.
