David Croft has shed light on the driver situation at Red Bull Racing in the Sky Sports F1 podcast. The lead commentator and analyst argues that the Austrian racing stable is in a "good but precarious" situation due to the abundance of talent within the ranks of the reigning constructors' champion.
Sergio Perez, whose contract was extended for two seasons this year, is on paper guaranteed a seat with Red Bull Racing's team until 2026. But there are many that would like to replace the Mexican, including Yuki Tsunoda, Daniel Ricciardo and also Liam Lawson and Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar are looking for a place in Formula 1.
Perez is currently seventh in the drivers' championship, 146 points behind leader Max Verstappen. His last podium finish was at the Grand Prix in China on 21 April.

Croft foresees difficulties

Perez himself has been struggling recently. So Croft concludes that Red Bull is in a difficult situation. "The thing is, Sergio is contracted for next year. So if Red Bull don’t take him up on that contract, I’m assuming they’re going to have to pay him – and I’m assuming that that’s more money than Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo."
