Here's what Christian Horner thinks about the newly proposed qualifying format

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner likes the new proposed format for the Saturday session but hopes enough tyres sets can be allocated. The Brit insists the FOM must first do their calculations well and they must not make a change for the sake of doing so.

This week, Formula 1 sports director Ross Brawn announced the potential changes to qualifying, with an extra Q4 session added on at the end. Like always, nobody is super enthusiastic about the possible change.

"At first it seems that we will have too few tires available for qualification. I think if we want to implement such a format, it is important that we avoid a situation where the cars will not take action in Q4 because they have no tires left," Christian said.

Horner isn't exactly negative about the situation, he's somewhat reserved. Looking back at the disastrous new qualifying format in 2016, Horner insists Brawn and his team must ensure they've tied every hole.

"We are open to new ideas, but they must do their homework well. We must make sure that it is not a change that is being made to make a change. We need to know what its purpose is and whether it actually improves," Horner concluded.
