Carlos Sainz expresses his love for new McLaren ahead of February 14 reveal

Carlos Sainz expects his new relationship with McLaren to start positively as he speaks highly of the teams' new car which launches on Valentine's Day.

"I've seen images of the new livery and aerodynamics, and at first glance, I think it's a nice car. Now it is important that I also like it when I am driving with it, and that it gives us good results. But I think it's a nice car and can see that a huge amount of work has gone into it," Sainz told motorsport.com on Monday at an event of the Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido in Madrid.

Although Sainz was busy at Renault last season, he's very aware of the path McLaren are on. Results failed to recover as expected last season, but Sainz insists the team have found a solution to their problem.

"2018 was an important year for McLaren. They have found out what has not gone well in recent seasons. They then reorganized a lot to be able to return to the top. This has all been done with a view to the medium term. To see results from this season would be nice, but I think that's going to be difficult and that we have to look at it step by step. However, the new rules offer opportunities for teams that had difficulties in 2018," Sainz added.
