The budget cap is one of the biggest talking points on the list of regulation changes for 2021. Talking to Auto Motor und Sport, Ross Brawn has said it will be installed in soft form next year, with it becoming a regulation 2 years later.
"A top team spends twice what a midfield team spends. We want to reduce that margin to around 10% or 20%. At the moment we're looking to introduce it in a soft form with dry runs in 2019 & 2020 and then it will be regulatory in 2021," Brawn told Auto Motor und Sport.
The cap is expected to be around $150 million. It is being brought in to help provide support for the lower teams.
The soft form should ease the transition for the bigger teams, which as Brawn alludes to, are spending much more. The former Ferrari man remains confident that the cap will work.
