Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger claims he knew Sebastian Vettel would be successful when he saw him over 10 years ago. Vettel has already won four World Titles and is now fighting for a fifth in a Ferrari car.
In the past, Berger went against the trend and didn't support the likes of Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher. However, Berger got to know Vettel in his Toro Rosso days and suggests part of his success is down to his professional attitude.
"When he [Vettel] came to us he was eighteen or nineteen years old, but he thought and worked as a thirty-year-old. Boys like Vitantonio Liuzzi and especially Scott Speed sometimes looked at you with a look of: 'What are you talking about?' They had no idea of the experience you get after 210 Grands Prix," Berger said in an interview on his latest F1 podcast beyond the grid.
"He [Vettel] sucked all the information from you, filtered it and left the useful and good things. He wanted to race, race out to learn to become better. He was already very mature at the time, you could see that he would become a successful driver," said Berger.
Vettel resumes his title fight this weekend 24 points behind rival Lewis Hamilton. Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger claims he knew Sebastian Vettel would be successful when he saw him over 10 years ago. Vettel has already won four World Titles and is now fighting for a fifth in a Ferrari car.
