Alpine will lose Fernando Alonso to Aston Martin at the end of the season. Although the Spaniard seems to be looking forward to his new challenge, Otmar Szafnauer does not expect the driver to have a dip in performance, he tells Formule1.nl.
Alonso would not be the first outgoing driver in Formula 1 to struggle to keep his concentration. Behind the scenes, he was already in frequent talks with Aston Martin, which logically left him with less time to focus on Alpine.

Alpine has faith in experienced Alonso

However, according to Alpine's team boss, Alonso is experienced enough to charge ahead of the final nine race weekends of the season. Szafnauer sees that his team can still achieve a number of goals and is confident that Alonso will pull out all the stops to achieve this.
"I have absolutely no worries about the rest of the season. Our goals are pretty clear. We want to finish at least fourth among the constructors. Third place is a step too far," explained Szafnauer, who with Alpine is in fourth place in the constructors' championship. The difference with McLaren is only four points.
