Fernando Alonso has won the 6 hours of Silverstone taking his record in the World Endurance Championship to three wins out of three. The Spaniard was partnered by Sebastian Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima as the #8 Toyota took another victory in the WEC Super Season.
With Buemi at the wheel going into the final hour, a late race pass on the sister car extended the teams unbeaten record this season to three races following wins at Spa and Le Mans.
The lead had swapped earlier on during the race after an issue with the #8 car meant that their teammate in the form of Kamui Kobayashi was able to snatch the lead back in the #7 Toyota having been behind in the early stages.
But, the final stint and a slow stop for repairs for the lead Toyota gave Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso another shot at victory, which the Swiss driver duly took full advantage of, driving to a 19-second lead and the checkered flag.
It is the first time since 2006 that Alonso has won three races back-to-back, a run from the Spanish to Canadian Grand Prix's of that season the last time he achieved the feat.

Whilst it was Alonso's third straight win in WEC, his teammates extended their unbeaten runs in the series to six races dating back to Fuji last year.
Elsewhere Jenson Button's hopes of a podium finish at Silverstone were dashed early on in the race after suffering an engine failure whilst running in the top three.
