'Alonso showed interesting idea to control porpoising'

Fernando Alonso performed well at the top in the third free practice session of the Australian GP. According to F1 experts, the Spaniard showed an interesting idea, which the engineers of the F1 teams can now think about before qualifying starts.

Qualifying is scheduled after the final practice session. While Aston Martin will be especially busy with repairs to the cars of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll, the other teams will use the time to perfect the car's balance one last time. Alonso's remarkably good times during VT3 in his Alpine give the engineers something new to think about.

F1 journalist Giuliano Duchessa saw an idea in Alonso's car that might be worth considering for other teams as well. After all, the Spaniard was in fourth place in FP3. Duchessa: "An interesting puzzle for the engineers going into qualifying. Alonso has shown that driving with less rear wing results in a way to better deal with porpoising, less stiffness of the car and therefore more speed and more comfort. In Turn 9/10 it will be a bit difficult, but if the grip increases, it could be an interesting choice."
