Fernando Alonso followed the championship battle at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the screens around the circuit. "I was updating myself from time to time."
- Fernando AlonsoThe two-time world champion did not hide the fact that he will follow the three-way battle for the 2025 drivers' title on the screens at the
Yas Marina Circuit.
After the race, Alonso explained how much he could follow his plan. "Yes, I was aware of [the battle]," he began to GPblog.
However, McLaren's strategy with
Oscar Piastri did leave the Spaniard wondering a bit.
He added: "Because they were on different tyres, sometimes Piastri was leading and I didn't understand if that was already with the stop or not. So I was updating myself from time to time."

Alonso congratulates all three contenders
Looking at the title battle, Alonso could only praise Norris, Piastri, and
Max Verstappen.
The Spaniard continued: "All three of them, they drove amazingly well this year. And even now, with the extra pressure in the last race, they qualified in the top three, they finished in the top three, so they still deliver the job.
"All three [would be deserving] world champions, only one can win, this time was Lando, so yes, congratulations to him, he has to enjoy [it] now.
"You dream to become Formula 1 driver eventually, and then to win the championship, [and] that day arrived for him. I hope he enjoys [it], and [it's] well deserved." Alonso himself managed to gain two positions in the drivers' standings after finishing sixth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As a result, he finished the season in tenth place.
