The FIA came out in late March with the news that a Grand Prix will be held in Las Vegas starting in 2023. According to The Race the organisation is working hard behind the scenes to be able to announce the next recurring race.
Indeed, it seems increasingly likely that drivers will travel to South Africa in the coming years. Although every other continent is represented on the annual racing calendar, Africa has been missing a GP for years. The circuit near Johannesburg should be the solution.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has repeatedly stated that he is very positive about a race in South Africa. Also within the teams there is a desire to travel to the continent. Lewis Hamilton, for example, said that he thought it was very important that the GP should return to the country.

History of South African GP

During the last century, the GP took place for decades in a row. While the FIA did not choose to have a race in South Africa between 1986 and 1991, it returned in 1992 and 1993. Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost were the last two winners, after which Formula 1 disappeared from the country for the last 29 years. However, a return now seems to be a matter of time.
