Lando Norris was set to place fifth in the Canadian Grand Prix. He could have placed higher, as he was right on the tail of Piastri, who had DRS on Antonelli. However, he crashed and thus lost out on any points altogether. Speaking to Sky Sports after the race he said, "No one to blame but myself, so I apologise to the whole team and to Oscar as well for attempting something probably a bit too silly."
Norris was able to get ahead of Piastri a few moments earlier only to immediatly lose his lead. His attempt to gt ahead the second time was catastrophic for his race.
He continued, "I'm glad I didn't ruin his race. In the end, I'm sorry to the team."
While Norris could not finish the race, Piastri crossed the finish line fourth. (
Piastri is currently under investigation for a safety car infringement.)
No points for Norris, what now?
The
McLaren driver then admitted, "
This was just more silly. This wasn't even like a 'that's racing', it was just silly from my part."What are his plans for getting over this crash and DNF? He said, "I go to bed tonight and apologise to everyone and then crack on."
Norris has already apologised several times to both the media and publicly to his team. This DNF does come as a blow to his bid for the championship was
Piastri is now 22 points ahead of Norris. Verstappen is also closer to Norris by 18 points.
