Lewis Hamilton's  car is under inspection from the stewards for his DRS-system. According to the stewards the system does not meet the requirements set by the FIA, which means the Briton risks disqualification and a possible pit lane start during the sprint race in Brazil. Red Bull Racing possibly played a role in the penalty.

According to Auto, Motor und Sport, the Austrian racing team has been of the opinion that Mercedes' rear wing is not according to the rules for some time. Advisor Helmut Marko felt that the team of Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were guilty of the same thing as they criticiised Red Bull in Baku.

An hour before qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Adrian Newey (technical director) and Paul Monaghan (chief engineer) reportedly walked into the FIA office to deliver a stack of evidence. This may have led to further action.

Possible role of Red Bull

As Hamilton is yet to answer to the race committee, it cannot be ruled out that this is because of Red Bull's work. The Mercedes driver will appear at 22:15 to prove that his team has acted according to the rules.
