Fernando Alonso was very critical of the race directors after the United States Grand Prix. The Spaniard did not regain his position after the fight with Kimi Raikkonen but had to give his position back to Antonio Giovinazzi after the fight that followed.

Alonso and Raikkonen restart debate

Alonso asked for an explanation and for more consistency from the race director. In the F1 Nation podcast, the incident is discussed with Damon Hill and others. Hill begins, "There is a reality we need to talk about; there is a limit to the track."

"If you drive over the track limit... If you get pushed over the edge, then accelerate and take your position back; is that fair racing? That's the debate here. We don't have an answer for it, because that's exactly what happened with Alonso and Raikkonen."

Hill sees that with the action between Raikkonen and Alonso the debate was restarted, "When is it and when is it not okay to drive outside the track and take your position back?" In the debate, Hill seemed to side with Alonso: "this is what Alonso does. And it was fantastic to see," the Briton concluded.
