Nobody can deny that the current Formula 1 season is exciting. With five races to go the gap between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is still very small, namely 12 points. All season long it has been exciting between the title rivals.

We already saw several incidents between Verstappen and Hamilton, for example at Silverstone when the Dutchman retired after a collision with Hamilton. Recently it went wrong in Monza when the two drivers collided and went off the track together and crashed out. Also last weekend it was exciting. The battle between the competitors went on until the very last lap and it was nail-biting for fans of Verstappen if Hamilton would try to overtake.

Only 18 times to the end

Seasons in which two drivers from different teams battle it out for the championship are rare. There is a good chance that the championship between Verstappen and Hamilton will not be decided until the last race of the season, something that has only happened 18 times since 1980.

It's been a while since we've seen a fight for the title where it's been this close every week. The last time Hamilton was really challenged until the end of the season was in 2016 by teammate Nico Rosberg. The last time two different constructors competed for the title was even longer ago, 2012 with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. What do you think of the statement: The 2021 season will go down in the books as one of the best of all time. Respond to the poll below and let your opinion be heard in the comment section.
