In the final stint of the United States Grand Prix, it looked likely that Lewis Hamilton would be able to catch his title rival Max Verstappen to win a thrilling race. With around three laps remaining, Hamilton approached DRS range but just couldn't get close enough to attempt an overtake.

The seven-time World Champion reviews his race in an interview with Sky Sports. He highlights why he couldn't get closer to Verstappen on the final lap of the race in America.

High temperatures

"The dirty air, and overheating of the tyres. But a great race down to turn one, I thought we would win the race but we have to wait until the next one," a downbeat Hamilton explained.

The 2021 season has five races remaining. The circus heads to Mexico and Brazil, which are traditionally strong races for Red Bull Racing and the Honda engine because of the altitude. But there are also a couple of circuits that are expected to favour Mercedes. With a 12 point deficit in the World Championship, Hamilton knows he needs to give it everything.

"I gave it everything we had. They were just quicker than us this weekend for whatever reason. It looked like they had better rear endless sliding," Hamilton added.
