Honda chief hopes to return to F1: 'It's very important for us'

Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of 2021 and Red Bull Racing will bid a fitting farewell in Turkey with a unique livery. Speaking to The RaceMasashi Yamamoto says he sees Honda returning to Formula 1 at some point in the future.

Honda have a long history in Formula 1. As a manufacturer, it has won several titles and as a team it has also won plenty of races. Honda fits in with F1, but will be leaving the sport at the end of 2021. Just when the cooperation with Red Bull Racing starts to pay off, the Japanese pull out the plug.

Honda keeps an eye on F1

However, Honda announced on Thursday that the behind-the-scenes collaboration with Red Bull will continue and a return to F1 is not ruled out either. "Personally I think yes, we are going to be back. Now it’s a situation where Honda has to concentrate on the carbon neutral and we have to accelerate the project," the Honda chief executive said.

"But once it’s going well, I think there will be people who want to do F1 inside the company. It’s the history of the company and it’s very important," Yamamoto concluded.
