The Mercedes team saw their lead in both championships reduce as they drove two laps behind the safety car, allowing the FIA to hand out half points. Team boss Toto Wolff clearly disagrees with the decision.

After an interruption of almost two hours, the FIA decided to finally start the race. It was only two laps behind the safety car, before the red flag was waved again and the cars could finally be parked in the pit lane. Speaking to ORF Wolff said that he was displeased with the FIA's decision. "Half points is not nice, but that's what the regulations say".

Mercedes preferred to see no action on the track

Immediately after the race, it became clear that all F1 team bosses went to race control to discuss the decisions of the FIA stewards. Lewis Hamilton was already talking about a decision based on money and revenue, making it clear he doesn't think it's right to drive two laps behind the safety car, only to not race under the green flag.

Team boss Toto Wolff concurs. "We now have to go and see how it went. All the team bosses are going to race control now anyway". There they will look at the decisions with Masi. "We clearly shouldn't have started. We would have been spared the procedure behind the safety car then."
