The W-series, the racing class for talented women, has been a success this season. The races are exciting, and this also seems to have been noted by the Formula 3 boss.

To Autusport.com Formula 3 boss Bruno Michel has said he's spoken with W-Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir about a possible merger. The women of the W-Series could then race or test in Formula 3 and prove themselves against the greatest male talents.

Michel: "I had talks at Silverstone with Catherine, the CEO of W Series, to see how we can try to work together in the future. Because there are some very interesting drivers in the W Series." Yet there is also a potential problem there: age.

"The point is that the age scale in the W Series is much broader than with us in Formula 3, because they have drivers from 19 to 30, more or less, and Formula 3 is from 16 to 22, the average is 19 or 20 I would say."

Talks are ongoing

Which means, then, that both parties are very much into it. How this would look is not yet clear to the Director of Formula 3.

"The idea we have discussed is to use W Series drivers to try and get them into Formula One. Of course they need to get into the pyramid, and everyone is fully aware of that and everyone understands that. We are discussing the best way to do that, maybe to help in some testing in Formula 3 for the winner. There are discussions going on and Catherine is fully in agreement with that, so that's something we're discussing. Absolutely."

Whether it will come to that next year or the year after remains to be seen. For now, Sophia Floersch remains the first and only female driver to ever race in Formula 3.
