At 40 years of age, Fernando Alonso is one of the older drivers on the circuit this season. The question was therefore whether the Spaniard could still manage to perform, but according to Alonso, this is not the problem.

The Alpine driver went through many seasons in his long Formula One career, giving him the experience to perform with his team. "We seem to get confused about the age or the performance that a sportsman can do. This is not the Tour De France, this is not the Olympic Games, this is not football where at 23 you are at the peak of your performance," Alonso judged in conversation with The Race.

Alonso knows that it is not easy for a young driver to gain points. "If I race myself now against myself of 23, I will beat him with one hand. It’s not the same for myself only, I guess everyone will give you the same answer. It’s not the younger you are, the quicker you are. This is not how the stopwatch works in motorsport."

GP of Hungary

In the last race before the winter break, Alonso positively stood out. In Hungary, the Spanish driver kept the faster Hamilton behind him for a long time, which ultimately prevented his former teammate from winning the race.
