GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association) chairman Alexander Wurz is a big fan of the halo, because of the safety it provides and the posibilities that offers to the sport. Wurz thinks that F1-cars could be going 250-300 miles per hour in Monaco in the future.

To reach the goal of reaching those speeds, safety needs to be amped up, Wurz tells the Austrian news-outlet Der Standard. And the halo helps with that, even though he does admit that it's not good for the eye.

"In current society and with organizations like the FIA, you can't ignore the aspect of safety simply because people don't like the look of it," the former F1-driver said.

However, Wurtz is confident that the fans will accept the look of the halo sooner rather than later.

"If what's happening on the track is exciting, with multiple drivers competing for wins, the fans will buy into that, whether there's a halo or not."

"When we make the cars safer, the FIA and race directors can also decide to let the drivers drive quicker and more aggressively."

"If we make the cars faster, we could be going 250 or 300 miles per hour through Monaco in the future. And if it rains, we no longer have to have a red flag. I'd like to see motorsports develop that way, this is the way it's been going the last thirty, forty years."

"Society has changed," the Austrian repeated. "No industry can afford to have people get injured or even die. You have to do whatever it takes to prevent that."
