It has been a problem for a while now: drivers trying to pull gaps during the run-up to their hot lap in order to get a perfect position on the track. There is an unofficial agreement between the drivers to treat each other nicely, the so-called gentleman's agreement, but still, it went wrong during the Austrian Grand Prix when Fernando Alonso had to get off the gas in the last corner to avoid the slow Sebastian Vettel.

Both men didn't blame each other for anything but joked that something needs to change about the way things are happening now. However, Michael Masi says there is little he can do about it under the current rules. He says that when drivers have problems with each other on track, they have to solve them themselves.

The Australian says in conversation with Motorsport.com: "I hear about the gentlemen's agreement because I see it in the media from time to time. And that's the gentleman's agreement they have between the 20 gentlemen who are on the track. So they may have to get back together and reaffirm or revise their gentleman's agreement between them."

Masi believes that the drivers themselves should be mature enough to sort this out: "Let's face it, they are all top athletes. I think one of the things that has probably exacerbated it this year is how tight the field is and how competitive the order is. So all that pressure comes with it."
