After Max Verstappen's thrilling victory in France there was a lot of talk about a revenge on the two times Lewis Hamilton won the race from Verstappen with a similar strategy. But the Dutchman himself does not see it as a payback.

Victory in France came unexpectedly

"I don't want to think about a payback. These things happen, you learn from them, but you can't change this kind of event," said Verstappen in conversation with F1.com. Verstappen won the French GP by going in for a second time for fresh tyres, making up for lost time and overtaking Hamilton on the fresh compound with two laps to go.

Verstappen had not seen a victory coming. "The pressure was on full. We are very evenly matched and I think it's in the small details. They're going to make the difference," continued the Red Bull Racing driver.

Not a favourite in Styria

After his second win in three Grands Prix, Verstappen is regularly tipped as the top favourite in the paddock. But the Dutchman wavers away from this role. "I find it difficult to judge. As I said, it's all in the tiny details. Time will tell where we'll end up exactly," he concluded.
