The first Formula 2 race in Monaco has just ended. This sprint race was run over 30 laps on the treacherous Monte Carlo circuit. The race was won by Guanyu Zhou followed by his teammate Felipe Drugovich. Roy Nissany finished third and this podium was formed thanks to some dropouts in a race that had some excitement towards the end.

Smoking car

Robert Shwartzman took pole position in yesterday's qualifying session, but unfortunately, he retired. Until lap 14, there was no problem, until Christian Lundgaard's car started smoking. The Danish driver kept on driving to the frustration of the other drivers because there was oil leaking on the track. Still, his drive didn't last much longer, because on lap 16 he had to park his car.

Lundgaard was driving in second place and due to his retirement, the field moved forward a bit. The top three that were formed at that moment also became the final top three of the Grand Prix. Overall, the race was mostly a parade until Gianluca Petecof made a familiar mistake on lap 25. He took the kerbs at the exit pool too hard, got loose and lost control. The result was that he parked his car in the guardrail.

As the car had to be towed away, a safety car appeared on the track and afterwards it was an interesting restart, as the field got close together again. In the final part of the race, this caused some battles here and there, but in the end, little changed in the total standings before the crash of Petecof.

Sixth spot for Tictum

On lap 29, a lap before the end of the race, the safety car was deployed again, albeit virtually and only in Sector 1. Marino Sato had driven straight into the crash barrier at turn one, but the car was quickly towed away without further consequences for the race. The best British driver in this sprint race was Dan Ticktum, who came across the line in sixth place. Jack Aitken finished sixteenth.
